Our neighbor is smoking
With the window open smoke slowly sinking
Out into the night.
You are right next to me
Not even very close but I’m as happy as I could be.
Watching the smoke swirling around
Drawing figures in the dark.
Sitting next to you with half the sofa in between.

for not knowing that my legs are shaved and soft.

that even other parts are freed of hair.

for my stupid wish to be pretty for you.
I do not mind
having cleaned the whole house.

having done the dishes.
I do not mind having bought eggs because you love one for breakfast.
I am not sad
that I bought new underwear.
I am not sad
about missing out on a night with my friends.
I am not sad
that I put perfume on my ankles.
I still do not blame you, although I do mind not being kissed good night.
But I am sad. That I love you – and you forgot.

dark and mysterious.
My flickering flames
drew you near.
Sat by the fire
strong and wild.
My generous warmth
kept you here.
Looked at the flames
yellow and blue.
The promise of hope
fought your fear.
Noticed the firewood
gone and burned.
In search of another
you left me here.

Heat is what I am to you.
Comforting and nice.
Don’t get me wrong I like
being the fire
warming your heart.
But at night my feet get cold.
